The African Food Research Network (AfREN) is pleased to welcome Adeyemi Comfort Oluwayemisi (Yemisi Adeyemi) as a Research Analyst Intern, joining our community of emerging scientists committed to strengthening food systems through research and innovation.
Yemisi is a dedicated Food Science and Technology student with a strong passion for transforming food systems through research-driven solutions, practical innovation, and sustainable resource utilization. Her journey into food science was inspired by a curiosity about everyday food challenges—how food is preserved, how quality is maintained, and how local resources can be better harnessed to support communities.
Over time, this curiosity has evolved into a clear purpose: to contribute to safer, more efficient, and sustainable food systems, particularly within developing regions where food security and post-harvest losses remain significant challenges.
Yemisi has developed hands-on experience in food processing, laboratory analysis, and quality control, supported by strong competencies in research, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Her academic interests are particularly focused on post-harvest technology, with a research emphasis on drying methods and their impact on the quality and shelf life of plantain-based products.
She views food not merely as a necessity but as a powerful driver of innovation, economic development, and sustainable transformation across Africa and beyond.
At AfREN, Yemisi will support research coordination and collaborative knowledge development, contributing to initiatives that bridge the gap between science, industry, and society within the African food systems landscape.
