The African Research Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases (ARNTD), in collaboration with the Coalition for Operational Research on Neglected Tropical Diseases (COR-NTD), is inviting applications for operational and implementation research under the seventh edition of its Small Grants Program (SGP VII). Funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Ending Tropical Diseases through Operational Research cooperative agreement, SGP VII aims to support African research scientists in addressing critical operational and programmatic challenges that align with the WHO 2030 NTD Roadmap to control and eliminate neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).
Objectives:
- Enhance African leadership, involvement, and visibility in NTD-focused operational and implementation research, particularly through direct collaboration with national NTD programs.
- Strengthen research capacity within Africa by supporting locally-driven, African-led NTD research, thereby bolstering African research institutions.
- Provide emerging researchers with valuable experience in research methodologies, grant application, and project management.
- Support mid-career researchers by funding distinct aspects of ongoing research or new questions related to their current work.
- Promote collaboration and knowledge-sharing among researchers, policymakers, and implementers across the Global South, fostering community involvement in research and agenda-setting.
- Facilitate North-South partnerships that enhance engagement between researchers and NTD programs, while fostering local leadership and ownership of initiatives.
Target Group:
This call is aimed at exceptional researchers and academics affiliated with research institutions or universities in Africa. Applicants must demonstrate that their proposed research aligns with their country’s NTD program priorities and shows potential for building both institutional and individual research capacity. Early-career grants support researchers at the beginning of their careers, while mid-career grants target previous SGP recipients (SGP I–VI) who have demonstrated excellence and seek to advance their research within the scope of this call.
Detailed eligibility requirements, scope, and application procedures for each funding stream are provided in the specific calls for applications. Applications may be submitted in English, French, or Portuguese, although shortlisted applicants must submit full proposals and required documentation in English.
Researchers who have had career breaks due to health or family reasons are strongly encouraged to apply.
