The African Food Research Network (AfREN) proudly hosted the AfREN Food Summit 2024, which was a remarkable success. The event brought together 145 professionals from the agrifood sector across various African countries, creating a vibrant platform for collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing.

Among our distinguished attendees were esteemed guests of honor: Prof. Ogugua Aworh, President of the International Academy of Food Science and Technology (IAFoST); Prof. J.O. Abu, President of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science & Technology (NIFST); and Prof. Kayode Oduse, a distinguished Professor of Food Science & Technology from Centennial College, Ontario, Canada. Their presence and insights added significant value to the discussions and proceedings.

The keynote address, delivered by Dr. Olumide Odeyemi, a renowned research support and grant management expert from Australia, set the tone for the summit. His address highlighted the critical role of research and agile methodologies in advancing sustainable food systems across Africa.

The summit featured presentations from scholars and students, which were evaluated by an unbiased panel of judges. Certificates and cash awards were presented to those with outstanding presentations, recognizing their contributions to the field.

A recording of the summit can be accessed here. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of this event.

We are already looking forward to the AfREN Food Summit 2025 and encourage all attendees to keep an eye on their emails for notifications. We can’t wait to welcome you again next year!
